Eid Ticketing Traffic Tops Tens of Millions Without Server Snags

As the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha approaches, the sale of advance train tickets through Bangladesh Railway’s online platform has witnessed an overwhelming response, with nearly five million daily hits recorded on the server. Despite the massive digital traffic, no major server failures have been reported so far.

According to official sources, online sales for tickets dated June 2 began at 8:00 AM on Friday, May 23. Within the first 30 minutes, over 12,000 tickets had already been sold. By the end of the morning, the site had logged a peak of 4.2 million hits from users attempting to purchase tickets.

On the previous day, tickets for June 1 were made available, and between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM, the site registered 4.4 million hits from eager travelers.

Bangladesh Railway disclosed that for travel on June 2, a total of 28,280 tickets were allocated for routes departing from Dhaka to various destinations. Of these, 13,714 seats were reserved for eastern routes served by 20 trains, and 14,566 for western routes covered by 17 trains. By 10:30 AM on the day of release, 13,637 tickets had been sold. Nationally, 155,060 tickets were allocated for June 2, with 16,020 sold by that time.

On the previous day, ticket sales for western routes began at 8:00 AM, drawing 2.7 million hits, while eastern route tickets, available from 2:00 PM, saw an additional 1.7 million hits. Among the 29,771 tickets allocated for both regions, 19,134 had been sold by 2:30 PM. Across the country, out of a total allocation of 163,783 tickets, 25,783 had been purchased by that same time.

As per Bangladesh Railway's schedule, tickets for June 3 will be available on May 24, followed by tickets for June 4 on May 25, June 5 on May 26, and June 6 on May 27.

Return tickets for post-Eid journeys will be issued as follows: June 9 tickets on May 30, June 10 on May 31, June 11 on June 1, June 12 on June 2, June 13 on June 3, June 14 on June 4, and June 15 on June 5.

To enhance customer convenience and streamline the purchase process, tickets for westbound trains are being released daily at 8:00 AM, while those for eastbound trains are released at 2:00 PM.
