“Omar” Opens Online: Mystery, Murder, and Mass Applause
The film Omar, directed by Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Raz, has garnered praise from audiences of all ages across cinema halls, OTT platforms, and television. The much-discussed film premiered online yesterday, May 22, at 12:00 PM on the YouTube channel 'Cinemawalla'.
Before its digital release, Omar earned critical and popular acclaim both in Bangladesh and abroad, particularly in the United States and Canada.
The film’s title was suggested by popular actress Mehazabien Chowdhury. It has been dedicated to the memory of the late writer-director Humayun Ahmed and legendary film actor Manna.
Released in theatres on Eid-ul-Fitr, April 26, 2024, Omar is a gripping blend of thriller, unexpected twists, and light comedy. The story begins with a murder—Little Mirza, son of the powerful elder Mirza, is killed. Two men are present at the scene: Omar and Bodi. Each blames the other for the crime, and the narrative unravels from this point of contention.
Shariful Raj plays the titular role of Omar, with Nasir Uddin Khan appearing as Bodi. The cast also includes Shahiduzzaman Selim, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Erfan Mridha Shiblu, Abu Hurairah Tanvir, Nafis Ahmed, Rosie Siddiqui, Tanzila Haque Maisha, and Ayman Simla. A special dance number features Indian actress Darshana Banik as a guest performer.
Produced under the banner of Master Communications by Khorshed Alam, the screenplay of Omar was penned by Siddique Ahmed. The cinematography was handled by Raju Raj, while Samurai Maruf served as the production designer.
The film’s soundtrack features vocals by Kona, Arfin Rumi, Animesh Roy, and India’s Ishan Mitra. Lyrics were written by Russel Mahmud, Johnny Haque, Someshwar Oli, and Amit Chatterjee, with music composed and directed by Naved Parvez, Amit Chatterjee, and India’s Savvy.
