The Vietnamese government announced on Wednesday that it will allow SpaceX to launch a trial operation of its Starlink satellite internet service. Reuters reported the development.

According to the government’s statement, there will be no restrictions on foreign ownership for this service, and the trial operation will continue until the end of 2030.

Analysts believe that Vietnam’s decision is part of a strategic move to mitigate potential U.S. tariffs. However, it remains unclear whether SpaceX has formally applied for a license to operate in the country.

Currently, Starlink operates in more than 120 markets worldwide. The government further stated that the company will be able to provide both fixed and mobile internet services across Vietnam, including connectivity for in-flight passengers.

During the trial phase, up to 600,000 customers will be permitted to use Starlink’s services, according to the government’s announcement.
