Bharti Airtel Partners with Starlink to Launch Satellite-Based Internet in India

Bharti Airtel, India’s multinational telecommunications service provider, has entered into an agreement with Elon Musk’s Starlink to introduce satellite-based internet services in the country.

The company announced the partnership on Tuesday, March 11, marking a significant step toward launching Starlink’s services in India. Speaking about the development, Bharti Airtel’s Managing Director and Vice Chairman, Gopal Vittal, said, “Collaborating with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone. This agreement further reinforces our commitment to next-generation satellite connectivity.”

As per the agreement, Starlink’s equipment may soon be available in Airtel’s retail stores. Additionally, Airtel will facilitate the launch of Starlink’s internet services across India. Starlink has plans to provide internet access to rural schools, healthcare centers, and remote areas, ensuring connectivity in underserved regions.

According to Indian news outlet Hindustan Times, the partnership will explore ways in which Starlink can leverage Airtel’s network infrastructure. The agreement also outlines strategies for Starlink to expand its operations in India using Airtel’s existing facilities.

Airtel has already been working with Eutelsat OneWeb on satellite internet services. With the addition of Starlink, the company aims to strengthen its internet service offerings, particularly in remote areas with poor connectivity.
