Hyundai is now the third largest car manufacturing company in the world
Hyundai Motor is now the world's third largest car manufacturing company in terms of sales. According to documents sent to policymakers, the South Korean-based company sold 6.8 million vehicles in 2022. It made Hyundai among the top three car manufacturers in the world.
Toyota, which is the top car seller, has sold 1 crore 48 lakh units. Apart from this, the second-ranked Volkswagen has sold 8.5 million units.
In 2000, Hyundai ranked among the top 10 car manufacturers in the world. In just two decades, Hyundai is now one of the top three car manufacturers in the world. The Seoul-based car maker surpassed the companies like Renault-Nissan (62 lakh), General Motors or GM (59 lakh) and Stellantis (58 lakh).
A major contributor to Hyundai's strong performance was strong sales of its high-end model, the Genesis. The automaker is expanding its presence in the EV market with the Hyundai Ionic 5 and Kia EV6.
