Canada banned TikTok
Like the US, Canada too has banned the popular Chinese video sharing app TikTok. This ban has been implemented since Tuesday. As a result, there is a fear of renewed diplomatic tension between Canada and China this time.
Regarding the reasons for the ban, the country's authorities said that the app "poses an unacceptable level of risk" in terms of privacy and data protection. The government of Justin Trudeau has taken such steps in view of the Chief Information Officer of Canada reporting on this.
According to a statement, the 'TikTok' app will be removed from government-issued mobile and other devices. Although TikTok leaked information on those devices, the Canadian government has yet to show any evidence. Earlier this month, the European Commission banned this popular Chinese app from their devices at the request of the United States.
In this context, a spokesperson for TikTok said, 'Chinese government officials have no opportunity to see user information. And the Chinese version of this app is different from the rest of the world. Canada's decision is curious. Because, they have taken such steps without consulting the organization despite having no security-related initiatives.'
