To honor the nation’s greatest sons who were victims of the brutal killings in 1971, the university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf, paid tribute by laying a wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial in Mirpur, Dhaka.
The ceremony was attended by BDU Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Registrar Muhammad Ataur Rahman Khan, Chairpersons of various departments, the Proctor, faculty members, staff, and employees.
After the wreath-laying ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abu Yusuf stated, “December 14 is a sorrowful day in Bengali history. On this day in 1971, we remember the intellectuals who sacrificed their lives at the crucial moment of victory. We pray for the peace of their souls."
He further mentioned, “In a vile attempt to cripple the intellect of Bangladesh, the collaborators of the occupying forces selectively murdered the nation’s distinguished intellectuals—writers, philosophers, scientists, lawyers, doctors, engineers, architects, sculptors, and cultural figures—who were contributing to the rise of Bangladesh."
