Professor Dr. Shah Alimuzzaman- The Vice Chancellor of BUTEX

Professor Dr. Shah Alimuzzaman has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the Bangladesh University of Textiles- BUTEX. The Department of Secondary and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education has issued a notification on 30th April, 2023 in this regard. He will serve as Vice-Chancellor for the next four years.

Professor Dr. Shah Alimuzzaman joined the then College of Textile Institute as a lecturer on 25 July 1993. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2001 and Associate Professor in 2009. He was promoted to the rank of Professor on 23 May 2015 and is currently a Grade-1 Professor. He is a Bangabandhu fellow. He is one of the researchers of Honorable Prime Minister's Priority Based Muslin Restoration Project.
Prof. Alimuzzanan passed first class in science department from Jessore board in 1983 and first class in 1985 from the same department and board. In 1986, he was admitted to Dhaka University's College of Textile Institute (now BUTEX). Shah Alimuzzaman obtained first class in BSc in Textile Technology in 1992 and completed MSc in Textile Engineering in 1996 from Ghent University, Germany. He was the first textile engineer to obtain MPhil degree in 2003 under Bangabandhu Fellowship. Later in 2003, when Bangabandhu Fellowship was completely stopped by the then BNP-Jamaat coalition government, he returned to the country. In 2010, Dr. Alimuzzaman wrote a letter to the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requesting Bangabandhu Fellowship. When the Bangabandhu Fellowship was launched again in 2010 on the instructions of the Prime Minister, he was the first textile engineer to obtain a PhD degree from Manchester University in England. Returning to the country in 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Professor of Textile University and has performed various duties till now.

From the beginning of his teaching career, he performed various duties with great sincerity. Assistant Hall Provost, Hall Provost, College Inspector, Proctor, Director (Student Welfare), Head of Department, Chairman of Examination Committee of Affiliated Colleges and Dean of Faculty of Textile Engineering and Syndicate Member. In addition, Professor Dr. Shah Alimuzzaman served as the elected president of the teachers' association (two terms from 2019 to present) and as the university registrar (additional duties). 

Father of three daughters in personal life, Dr. Alimuzzaman also owns the first research patent of Textile University. Unstitched jute bags were also made by his hand. He is the Vice President of Textile Engineers Association.  Dr. Alimuzzaman has written several books for students. There are several researches focused on textile engineering. So far, he has published more than 22 research papers in various international journals.
