Facebook and Twitter banned in Russia

Claiming the Western media has been spreading propaganda against Moscow since the invasion of Ukraine; Russia has banned social media Facebook and Twitter. Russia's communications watchdog Roscommonadzor on Friday banned the services in the country. In March, the Russian Federation decided to block the use of the Facebook network (owned by the Meta platform), CNN reported, citing Russia's communications regulator. Following the announcement, Meta President Nick Clegg said the decision would cut off Russian users from reliable information sources. The White House also said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned" about the move. However, Instagram and WhatsApp are still working in the country. Russia's communications watchdog, Roscommonadzor, on Friday banned the use of Twitter, the Tass news agency reported. According to Interfax and the RIA Novosti news agency, the use of Twitter in Russia has been restricted since February 24 at the request of the prosecutor's office.
