Children and adolescents assembled at the Science Museum celebrating the World Environment Day
On the occasion of World Environment Day, a gathering of children and adolescents was held at the National Museum of Science and Technology-NMST on Monday (June 5, 2023). Science lectures on environmental issues were held in the rally along with environmental awareness sessions.
About a hundred children and teachers of various educational institutions participated in the rally entitled 'Ban plastic-polythene, use jute bags'. Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, Director General of the Museum, said in the gathering, "Scientific awareness should be created so that children can know about the harm of plastic-polythene use. All school campuses should be made polythene free. Avoid storing food and water in plastic bottles or containers. Avoid drinking water directly from the bottle. Drinking water from a bottle into a jug or glass is safe. Indiscriminate dumping of plastic-polythene is spreading microplastics in agricultural lands, ponds, water bodies and vast urban areas, posing a risk of cancer. Awareness should be created against plastic-polythene through extensive educational programs from educational institutions.”
On this occasion, students were gifted beautiful bags made of jute from the science museum and an oath taking ceremony was organized to encourage the use of jute bags. Taking the gifted jute bags, the students recited the oath- “I will avoid plastic-polythene / will use jute bags /to ensure environmental protection.
