Accelerating the adoption of clean technology and sustainable infrastructure in maritime logistics, Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has initiated a project to install an 8.42 MWp rooftop solar power plant across its unutilized administrative and shed roofs.

A bilateral agreement was formally signed on Monday (October 19, 2026) between the Chittagong Port Authority and Greener Parvetix Initiative Limited (GGI). CPA Chairman Rear Admiral S M Moniruzzaman and GGI Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Noore Alam executed the contract.

According to an official press release, the project aligns with national clean energy guidelines and will be implemented via an Operating Expense (OPEX) model. Under this private-investment framework, GGI will completely self-finance the solar infrastructure, requiring zero upfront capital expenditure (CAPEX) from CPA.

Per the terms, GGI will oversee the engineering design, hardware procurement, construction, and long-term maintenance of the solar power plant, supplying clean energy to the port for the next 20 years. The transition is projected to reduce reliance on the conventional power grid and save nearly 100 crore BDT in electricity expenses over two decades.

Furthermore, the installation features advanced net-metering integration, enabling any surplus solar power generated to be routed back into the national grid. The green technology initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Paris Climate Agreement mandates, driving decarbonization across port operations.
