BGMEA Launches ESG Platform for Garment Sector

Boosting global competitiveness, environmental standards, and data-driven corporate governance, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has officially launched a digital 'ESG Platform' for the readymade garment (RMG) industry.
Unveiled on Monday (October 19, 2026) at the Nurul Quader Auditorium inside the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka, the digital dashboard is financially supported by the Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh, with technical collaboration from the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) and Mapped in Bangladesh (MIB).
Finance and Planning Adviser Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir attended the inauguration as the chief guest. Chaired by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, the event featured addresses from Danish Ambassador Christian Brix Møller, Policy Exchange Bangladesh Chairman Dr. M Masrur Reaz, BIGD Research Director Professor Munshi Sulaiman, and BGMEA Director Sheikh Hossain Mohammad Mustafiz.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir highlighted that digital transformation and sustainable standards in the RMG sector are crucial as Bangladesh navigates economic challenges and prepares for LDC graduation by 2029. He noted that the government provided $4.12 billion in energy subsidies over the past eight months.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan disclosed that 326 factories have submitted operational metrics to the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) dashboard so far. To meet evolving global buyer mandates, BGMEA plans to make data submission mandatory for all member factories in joint collaboration with BKMEA.
Initiated in 2019, the tech-backed platform shifts the apparel industry from basic compliance toward data-verified sustainability and long-term competitiveness in international supply chains.
