Fact-Check: Gazi Nazrul's Viral Video Real, CCTV Footage Shows Second Wife

Fact-checking platforms 'The Descent' and 'Rumor Scanner' have verified that the viral video featuring Jamaat-e-Islami leader and Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam is genuine and not created or edited using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

'The Descent' clarified that the young woman in the video is Morium Khatun. MP Gazi Nazrul Islam also confirmed that she is his second wife. However, AI-generated still images created using screenshots from the video were circulated on social media. Similarly, 'Rumor Scanner' reported finding no anomalies in the original long video or its audio track.

Confirming the MP's statement, Morium's father, Masum Billah, stated that his daughter married Gazi Nazrul Islam on June 17 with a mahr of BDT 3 lakh. The video was captured from a CCTV camera in his Moghbazar office while the couple was resting. He alleged that his brother-in-law, Obaidullah, was behind the incident.

Maulana Azizur Rahman, Media Wing Chief of Satkhira District Jamaat, stated, "The MP informed us that the woman in the video is his second wife, married with the consent of his first wife. We are investigating how the video was leaked."

In a social media post, Gazi Nazrul Islam alleged that his driver Obaidullah (who is also Morium's maternal uncle) masterminded the plot. Obaidullah demanded BDT 5 lakh from him and BDT 10 lakh from his father-in-law using the CCTV footage, leaking it after they refused to pay the ransom. He termed it a deliberate character assassination attempt.

Meanwhile, 'The Descent' highlighted a discrepancy in the timestamp, noting that the CCTV footage shows July 1, 2023, whereas the MP claims the event occurred on July 13, 2026. Addressing the date discrepancy, Gazi Nazrul stated he has no idea why the timestamp shows a different date. Cyber security experts have voiced serious concerns over the breach of privacy following the public leak of bedroom CCTV footage.
