Screenless Smart Fitness: Google Preps AI Band to Rival Whoop
Google is set to compete with Whoop by launching a screenless fitness band in the market. NBA star Stephen Curry, who signed a partnership agreement last year with Google as a performance advisor for its health, Pixel, and cloud products, has hinted at the upcoming fitness device.
According to a report by Bloomberg News, Google’s health tracker will come with a subscription service and feature an AI-based personal health coach. Similar to Whoop, the device seen on Curry’s wrist appears to have a braided fabric band and a metal clasp design.
However, while Whoop requires a mandatory subscription for its device, Google will charge separately for the band itself. Although some health tracking features will be available for free, users will need to subscribe to access advanced metrics.
The device is expected to be named ‘Fitbit Life’ or ‘Fitbit Elite’. It may be launched later this year. Through this product, Google is entering into competition with popular fitness devices such as Apple’s Apple Watch series and Whoop.
Recently, under the Fitbit brand, Google has introduced several fitness trackers, but this marks its first initiative with a screenless device.
