Amid the worldwide rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Bangladesh has initiated the ‘3rd Bangladesh AI Olympiad (BdAIO)’ to equip students for global competition. Organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), top performers in this competition will earn the opportunity to represent the red-and-green flag at the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) in Kazakhstan this August. Additionally, participants will have the chance to compete in the Asia Pacific AI Olympiad scheduled for June this year.

Organizers stated that students can participate in one of two categories this year. For those less proficient in coding but keen on AI, the ‘AI Quiz’ category allows school-level students to participate for free and test their logic and general knowledge. Meanwhile, the ‘AI Challenge’ category is designed for students from Grade 6 to higher secondary and Polytechnic (4th semester) levels, who will tackle real-world problem-solving using modern technologies like Python and Machine Learning. This challenge will be conducted on ‘Kaggle’, one of the world’s leading data science platforms.

The regional rounds of the BdOSN-organized Olympiad will take place in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Khulna. Winners of these regional rounds will advance to the national round in Dhaka, from where the Bangladesh AI team will be selected in stages.

According to Dr. B. M. Moinul Hossain, Director of the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) at the University of Dhaka, AI education is essential to meet the challenges of the future. He encouraged students to participate in the Olympiad to demonstrate their skills. Additionally, international medalist Arefin Anwar emphasized that this is not just a competition but a grand opportunity to connect with some of the world’s brightest talents.

For this edition, the platinum sponsor and host is Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), with REVE Chat participating as Powered By. Brain Station 23 serves as a gold sponsor, and the Institute of Information Technology (IIT), University of Dhaka, is contributing as a knowledge partner.

Interested participants can register at the official address. The detailed syllabus of the competition is available at bdaio.org/syllabus.
