Trump’s Truth Social Post Sparks Venezuelan Presidency Frenzy

US President Donald Trump has stirred a social media storm by posting an image on his own platform, Truth Social, claiming he will serve as the Acting President of Venezuela starting January 2026. The image states, “Acting President of Venezuela, term from January 2026,” and is styled in the format of a Wikipedia page, complete with an official photo and a listing of Trump as both the 45th and 47th US President.

However, no official Wikipedia page or international organization recognizes Trump as Venezuela’s Acting President. The post comes just days after a US operation in Venezuela captured President Nicolás Maduro.

Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were taken to New York on January 3 in a midnight operation led by Delta Force. They are currently held at a federal detention center in Brooklyn, awaiting trial in the United States.

The operation, named Operation Absolute Resolve, involved attacks on several key locations in Venezuela, resulting in at least 80 deaths, including over 30 Cuban military personnel. On January 5, Maduro and Flores were brought before a New York court on arms and drug-related charges. Maduro has maintained his innocence, claiming he was abducted from his Caracas residence by the US authorities.

Following Maduro’s detention, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as the interim president.

Trump’s social media post has generated widespread discussion and confusion online, blending political reality with digital fiction, and highlighting the volatile intersection of social media, international politics, and misinformation.
