Status Sparks Stir: Sajib vs. Shakib in Social Media Showdown
A war of words erupted on social media between Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Bangladesh’s cricket superstar Shakib Al Hasan, though neither directly mentioned the other’s name. Their open-secret statements have stirred widespread debate online.
Around 10:00 pm on Sunday, Asif Mahmud wrote in a Facebook status: “You hurled thousands of abuses at me for not rehabilitating someone. But I was right. End of the discussion.”
Although he did not specify, social media users quickly discerned the target of his post. The hint appeared directed at Shakib Al Hasan, especially as the cricketer had posted on Facebook just an hour earlier. At around 9:00 pm Sunday, Shakib uploaded a photo with the ousted, fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following the mass uprising. The photo’s caption read: “Happy Birthday, Apa.”
Shortly after, Sajib’s status drew attention. In response, Shakib Al Hasan posted a counter statement. At around 11:20 pm Bangladesh time, he wrote on Facebook: “Well, at last someone has admitted that because of him I could no longer don the Bangladesh jersey, nor play for Bangladesh! Perhaps someday I will return to my beloved motherland. I love Bangladesh.”
The exchange has since fueled heated discussions across digital platforms, with fans and observers weighing in on the veiled confrontation.
