WhatsApp Widens World: Meta Introduces Real-Time Translation
Meta has launched a new real-time translation feature on its popular messaging app, WhatsApp. The company announced on Tuesday that the feature will allow more than 3 billion users to communicate seamlessly across different languages, according to a Reuters report.
In the initial rollout, six languages will be available on Android devices and nineteen on iPhones. Meta confirmed that additional languages will be added in the future.
In a blog post, the company emphasized that translations will be processed entirely on the user’s device, ensuring privacy protection. “WhatsApp itself will not be able to see any messages,” the statement noted. Users can long-press a message and tap the “Translate” button to convert it into another language. The feature will be effective across personal messages, group chats, and channel updates.
Additionally, Android users will have the option to enable automatic translation for entire chat threads, ensuring that all future messages are translated instantly.
