Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) recently hosted the inaugural edition of Sci-Blitz 1.0, a research-based competition that drew participation from students of 38 universities across Bangladesh. Held on Friday, July 25, the event featured innovative ideas presented through the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) contest and a Poster Presentation segment.

Participants showcased research in areas ranging from alternative fuel generation from plastic and organic waste to AI-based traffic control, earthquake and cyclone early warning systems, and data-driven tools for maternal health risk assessment. Other presentations explored eco-friendly building design, traffic congestion reduction, and life-enhancing technologies.

The 3MT segment—organized in two phases—saw 40 shortlisted teams present the background, methodology, findings, and impact of their research within three minutes using a single static slide. This was the first-ever national-level 3MT event held in Bangladesh.

In the Poster Presentation segment, 211 students from 26 universities participated, with 18 teams making it to the finals.

The competition concluded with an award ceremony where three top prizes and six honorable mentions were presented in the 3MT category, while three outstanding posters received special awards. CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmood Abdul Matin Bhuiyan presented the awards to the winners.

Distinguished guests at the event included former Vice-Chancellors Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam (CUET & RUET), former Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of the Institute of Energy Technology Professor Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering Dr. Kazi Delwar Hossain, and EEE Department Professor Dr. Nipu Kumar Dash.

The event, spearheaded by students of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, also featured two keynote sessions addressed by Professor Dr. Md. Imamul Hasan Bhuiyan of BUET and Abida Sultana, Director of the Chittagong Social Business Center.

Sci-Blitz 1.0 not only served as a platform to showcase student-led innovations but also emphasized CUET’s growing commitment to nurturing a culture of impactful research and interdisciplinary collaboration in Bangladesh.
