GameStop Gives Up Canada: EB Games Brand Revived Under New Ownership

GameStop has sold off its Canadian division, according to a press release confirming the transaction. The acquisition was made by Stephen Tétrault, owner of Canadian toy manufacturer and distributor Imports Dragon, who has announced the relaunch of the business under the familiar name EB Games Canada. The news was first reported by Engadget.

Earlier this year, in February, GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen had publicly invited interested buyers via the social media platform X, signaling the company's intent to exit its Canadian operations.

With this acquisition, the EB Games brand re-enters the Canadian video game market—where it once operated under GameStop’s ownership—marking a notable return. Further details on the company’s future direction and business strategy under its new ownership are expected to be announced soon.
