Electric Boost for Bangladesh Post: 50 E-Bikes Delivered to Postmen

Fifty electric bikes were officially handed over to Bangladesh Post's iconic postmen—widely known as runners—on Tuesday (April 15) at the General Post Office (GPO) in Dhaka. The red electric bikes are equipped with specially designed cargo boxes at the rear for carrying mail and parcels.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, formally handed over the keys to the postmen. The event was attended by Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry, and SM Shahab Uddin, Director General (Additional Charge) of the Postal Directorate.

In his speech as the chief guest, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said, “Our goal is to reform the postal service through systemic changes. The activities we are undertaking aim to deliver postal services to people in a more accessible manner, overcoming the existing obstacles, and introducing innovative solutions.”

The event highlighted that these environmentally friendly e-bikes will significantly enhance the efficiency of Bangladesh Post’s delivery system.

According to postal department sources, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country's mail and parcel delivery system through modern technology and public-private partnerships. With the allocation of e-bikes to runners, deliveries from urban centers to rural areas will not only become faster but will also ease the workload of postal workers.
