Firm Warning for Fare Fraud: Railway Advisor Urges Caution from Shohoz

To combat the persistent issue of train ticket black marketing, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Railways, has issued a strong directive to private online ticketing service provider Shohoz.com. He warned that failure to take effective action against ticket scalping could lead to a reconsideration of Shohoz’s existing agreement with Bangladesh Railway.

He made these remarks on Tuesday, April 8, while speaking as the chief guest at a review meeting held at the Railway Bhaban in the capital. The meeting was convened to assess railway operations during the recent Eid-ul-Fitr and to ensure smooth travel for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holiday.

The session was chaired by Md. Fahimul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, and attended by Afzal Hossain, Director General of Bangladesh Railway, along with other senior officials from the ministry and the railway department.

“If Shohoz.com fails to take effective steps against ticket black marketing, the existing agreement with Bangladesh Railway may be reconsidered,” the advisor stated clearly.

He further emphasized the need for a dedicated intelligence team within Bangladesh Railway to identify and bring to justice individuals involved in ticket scalping through social media platforms. Additionally, he called for the avoidance of unnecessary and excessive expenditures in ongoing projects, warning that in the future, “No increase in project cost or timeline will be tolerated.”
