NCTB Removes ‘Adibashi’ Graffiti Following Student Protest
The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has removed the “Adibashi” graffiti from the online version of the “Bangla Grammar and Composition” textbook for grades nine and ten. In its place, the new graffiti titled “Bolo Beer, Chiro Unnoto Momo Shir” has been added. This change was made following the demand of a group of students.
The student organization “Students for Sovereignty” raised concerns about the usage of the word “Adibashi,” arguing that the term is not mentioned in the Constitution. According to them, the Constitution refers to indigenous groups or tribes, and therefore the use of the term “Adibashi” is inappropriate.
The students organized a protest in front of the NCTB office in Motijheel last night. Following the protest, NCTB promptly made the revision to the online version of the textbook.
