A case has been filed over an attack and vandalism at the central sorting centre of AJR Parcel and Courier Service Limited in Hazaribagh, Dhaka. The complaint alleges that equipment worth approximately Tk 3.1 million, including surveillance, server and network hardware, was stolen. It names 70–80 unidentified people as suspects. Police say efforts are underway to arrest those involved.

Afsar Uddin, manager of the company’s human resources and administration department, filed the case at Hazaribagh Police Station at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday (October 21).

According to the complaint, the attack took place at around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday (October 20) at the company’s warehouse near Mendi Dental College Road in Hazaribagh. Between 70 and 80 people wearing masks and helmets allegedly took part. Around 40–50 entered the facility, while the others remained outside.

Two Men Had Earlier Sought the Operations Manager

The complaint states that at around 10:30 p.m. on October 18, two unidentified men arrived by motorcycle at the gate of the company’s central sorting centre in Hazaribagh. They asked security guard Md Harun Ar Rashid for Operations Manager Nizam Uddin.

When told that Nizam Uddin was not on duty, the men allegedly tried to enter without permission. They threatened the security guard and left after being denied entry.

At around 6:44 p.m. on October 20, between 70 and 80 masked and helmeted individuals reportedly arrived at the warehouse’s western gate on 35–40 motorcycles.

According to the complaint, 40–50 people entered the facility and tore down CCTV cameras and their connecting cables, creating panic. Another 30–40 remained outside.

Server and Network Equipment Allegedly Stolen

The complaint alleges that eight or nine of the attackers were armed. After entering the facility, they began vandalizing furniture and customers’ goods. Employees reportedly ran in different directions in fear.

One of the attackers allegedly identified himself as a member of “Captain Emon’s” group and demanded control of the premises and rent payments. The group then broke the lock and door of the CCTV server room and caused extensive damage.

The reported list of stolen equipment includes one Cisco core device, one router, seven network video recorders (NVRs) for different channels, 38 hard drives with 10-terabyte capacities, one server rack, 40 two-megapixel cameras, eight central processing units (CPUs), eight monitors and one laptop.

The complaint estimates the market value of the stolen equipment at Tk 3.1 million.

Employees Allegedly Threatened by Phone

The case also alleges that, since the incident, a man named Saiful has been calling company employees from the number 966577495468. He reportedly claims to be associated with “Captain Emon” and has threatened staff members.

The complaint further alleges that the individuals had previously been involved in extortion and intimidation. It says the incident has disrupted the company’s normal operations and left employees feeling unsafe.

Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mosharraf Hossain told BanglaNews that Afsar Uddin, the company’s HR and administration manager, filed the case on Wednesday night.

He said 70–80 unidentified people had been named as suspects. Police efforts to arrest them are underway, and operations in connection with the case are continuing.
