Home Minister Urges BGB to Strengthen Smart Border Security
Bangladesh's Home Minister has instructed BGB to strengthen smart border management through drones, thermal cameras, and advanced surveillance technologies while maintaining professionalism and discipline.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has directed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to enhance its technological capabilities while maintaining professionalism and discipline to strengthen border security.
Speaking at an interactive session with BGB personnel at Shaheed Shakil Ahmed Auditorium at the BGB Headquarters in Pilkhana on Monday (July 20), the minister said the government is transforming the force into a modern, technology-driven border security organization through the deployment of drones, night vision devices, thermal cameras, and advanced surveillance systems.
BGB Director General Major General Md. Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui delivered the welcome address. Personnel from all battalions and Border Outposts (BOPs) joined the event through video teleconference, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and BGB.
The minister said that under the government's election commitments and 180-day action plan, significant progress has been made over the past five months in strengthening BGB through new border outposts, increased manpower, smart surveillance technologies, and enhanced operational capabilities.
He emphasized maintaining discipline and the chain of command, urging BGB members not to be influenced by rumors or misinformation and to continue safeguarding the country's sovereignty and national interests.
Salahuddin Ahmed also praised BGB's role in preventing illegal border crossings and forced push-in attempts, saying such incidents have now been reduced to nearly zero due to the force's firm and professional response.
He further commended BGB's contribution to combating drug trafficking, arms smuggling, human trafficking, and its humanitarian support for border communities.
Before the meeting, the Home Minister was received with a guard of honour. He later received a briefing on BGB's operational, administrative, training, and development activities, signed the visitors' book, visited key installations at the headquarters, and planted a tree at the Simanta Kunj premises.
