BSTI Orders Withdrawal of Eight Product Variants from Market
BSTI has ordered the withdrawal of eight product variants from four companies after laboratory tests found violations of Bangladesh Standards, including excessive preservatives, harmful microorganisms and quality deficiencies.
The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has ordered the withdrawal of eight product variants manufactured by four companies after laboratory tests found they failed to meet Bangladesh Standards (BDS). The products were found to contain excessive preservatives, harmful microorganisms, or failed to comply with prescribed quality standards.
BSTI announced the decision on Monday, July 20.
According to the agency, Fresh Garden Agro Resources' mango pickle (Batch No. FGMP200G0426) contained preservative levels above the permitted limit.
Kazi Food Industries Ltd.'s Bellisimo Rotondo Hazelnut Coated Chocolate Ice Cream (Batch No. 26050101A) was found to contain Total Milk Solids Non-Fat above the BDS specification.
Several cosmetic products manufactured by Olive Bangladesh Ltd. were found to contain harmful microorganisms. These include Labannya Milk Skin Lotion (Batch No. 2961104A), Aloe Vera Skin Lotion (Batch No. 2961204A), Olive and Labannya Face Wash Moringa+Matcha (Batch No. 2951404A), Foaming Milk & Tulsi (Batch No. 2951204A), and Labannya Aloe Vera Shampoo (Batch No. 2921304A).
BSTI also found that Deco Foods Ltd.'s Deco Fruit Funda Mango and Orange Soft Drink Powder (Batch No. 133) contained Vitamin C below the required national standard.
The authority has already issued rejection notices to the manufacturers and instructed them to suspend production, sale and distribution of the affected products until their licences are renewed or reapproved.
BSTI has directed the companies to immediately recall the products from distributors, dealers and retail outlets across the country. The agency said compliance with the order will be closely monitored and legal action will be taken against any company that fails to comply.
