A fire broke out at the Cargo Village Complex of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka late Friday night, prompting a swift response from the Fire Service and Civil Defense.

According to fire officials, the blaze originated near Gate No. 9 of the Cargo Village Complex at approximately 11:24 p.m. on June 5. Four firefighting units were immediately dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control by 11:38 p.m., just 14 minutes after the alarm was raised.

Speaking to reporters, Fire Service Headquarters official Shafik confirmed that the fire started in front of the airport’s cargo gate No. 9. However, the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately.

Fire Service Duty Officer Rashed Bin Khaled said the situation remained under control due to the prompt response of firefighters. He added that investigations were underway to determine how the fire started, while an assessment of losses was yet to be completed.

The incident has revived memories of a major fire that struck the same Cargo Village Complex on October 18 last year. That blaze required the efforts of 37 firefighting units from 13 fire stations and took nearly six and a half hours to extinguish.

During the previous incident, flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended, and at least 35 people, including members of the Ansar force, were injured while participating in firefighting and rescue operations.

Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the latest fire incident and assess any potential impact on cargo operations at the country’s busiest international airport.
