Apple Adopts Gemini for Smarter Siri
Apple and Google have confirmed that Google’s Gemini model will power the next version of Apple’s AI-based voice assistant, Siri. In a joint statement, the two tech giants said that under a long-term partnership, Apple’s next-generation foundation models will be built on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. This collaboration will enable the rollout of more personalized and advanced Siri features, along with future Apple Intelligence capabilities, later this year. Engadget reported.
The statement noted that after evaluating multiple technologies, Apple concluded that Google’s AI technology offers the most capable foundation for Apple’s foundation models. At the same time, Apple emphasized that Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and through Private Cloud Compute, maintaining the company’s long-standing privacy standards for users.
Apple first introduced the concept of a generative AI–powered Siri at WWDC 2024. Although the company announced a delay to the major update in March 2025, the agreement with Google has now cleared the way for the launch of the enhanced Siri.
