HalTrip Heist Handler Held at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport
Mohammad Tajbir Hasan, the Managing Director and one of the masterminds behind the massive online travel agency fraud at HalTrip, has been arrested. After remaining a fugitive for a long time, he was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport late Friday night upon his return to the country.
Around 12:00 noon on Saturday, intelligence agency officials handed him over to the Airport Police Station. The duty officer of the station, Sub-Inspector (SI) Anisur Rahman, confirmed the information to the media.
According to sources, this close associate of PK Halder entered Bangladesh on September 24 using a Turkish passport. He was taken into custody and later produced before the court in the afternoon. The court ordered his imprisonment and fixed October 14 for the remand hearing.
It may be recalled that in 2020, HalTrip suddenly disappeared after swindling hundreds of crores of taka from its customers, leaving numerous passengers and travel agencies severely affected. Following the scandal, Mohammad Tajbir Hasan fled the country the same year and later acquired citizenship in two countries — Turkey and Vanuatu. Several sources have also claimed that he holds residency in Malta and a Golden Visa in Spain.
