IEB Inspires Innovation: Seminar Highlights Australian Engineering Standards

The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) hosted a seminar titled “National Competency Standard for Engineering in the Context of Accreditation and Credentialing: Australian Practice” at its headquarters in Ramna, Dhaka, on Thursday, September 4, at 5:00 pm.

The keynote paper was presented by Dr. Zubair Syed, Head of Credentials at Engineers Australia, who shared insights into accreditation and competency assessment in Australia. He emphasized that competency-based standards are essential for international recognition, professional development, and global employability of engineers.

The seminar was attended by IEB dignitaries, officials of the Dhaka Centre, departmental representatives, board members, the Quality Assurance Cell, sectoral committees, the BAETE evaluation team, as well as prominent engineers, academics, and industry representatives.

Speakers highlighted that aligning engineering education in Bangladesh with global standards is an urgent necessity. They underscored the importance of a robust accreditation framework, effective coordination between academia and industry, and competency development in line with international benchmarks.

In the concluding Q&A session, participants exchanged views on the practical aspects of implementing competency-based standards in Bangladesh.

The organizing body, the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), noted that such seminars play a vital role in enhancing the quality of engineering education and fostering international collaboration.
