JUST Observes July Uprising Day with Unity, Reflection and Resolve
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) commemorated the July Uprising Day 2025 with a series of solemn and spirited events, including national and university flag hoisting, a victory rally, national anthem performance, discussion sessions, cake cutting, essay and art competitions, and special prayers for those injured or martyred during the student-led movement of July 2024.
The day began on Tuesday, August 5, with the ceremonial flag hoisting in front of the administrative building. Led by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, the rally commenced from the university’s main gate and ended in front of the Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building. A seminar titled “Reflections on the July Revolution and Vision for Future Bangladesh” followed in the building’s Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery.
Speaking as chief guest, the Vice Chancellor remarked, “We pray for the forgiveness of all martyrs of the July Revolution and wish a speedy recovery for the injured. This movement stood for a corruption-free and just society. We aim to build an ideal Bangladesh from our respective positions. JUST shall be a university free from inequality and corruption, where everyone receives their rightful due.”
Treasurer Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, who presented the keynote and chaired the seminar, spoke on the pivotal role of students and the public in the revolution, linking their actions to the future development goals of the country.
After the seminar, members of the university community gathered in the central gallery to cut a commemorative cake with July warriors and children. This was followed by an essay writing contest and a children's drawing competition, which were met with great enthusiasm. Special prayers were held after Zuhr prayers at the central mosque, seeking blessings for the martyrs and the speedy recovery of the injured. To mark the occasion, all university halls served upgraded meals, and the day concluded with a musical program titled “Songs of the July Uprising,” featuring student performances.
Special guests included Professor Dr. Mosammat Asma Begum, Chairman of the Jessore Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and a member of the JUST Regent Board; Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, another Regent Board member; Dr. Md. Rafiqul Hasan, Director of Student Counselling and Guidance; Dr. Md. Masum Billah, Chairman of the Department of Physics; and student representatives Md. Ismail Hossain, Samiul Alim Sami, Saikat, and Farzana Rahman.
Deans, chairpersons, department heads, faculty, staff, and students from various departments attended the event. The ceremony was moderated by Md. Shahanur Rahman Shuvo, Lecturer in the Department of Finance and Banking.
