Misleading Video Circulates Claiming UN Meeting with Ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

A misleading video has been circulated on social media claiming that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after resigning during the student-led protests in July-August, held a meeting with a United Nations team in Delhi. However, an investigation by ‘Bangla Fact,’ a fact-checking and media research unit under the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), has revealed that the claim is false.

The investigation found that a video from 2023, showing Sheikh Hasina being felicitated at a civic reception in London, was re-uploaded with the false claim that it depicted a UN meeting in Delhi.

The image used in the misleading claim was traced back to multiple social media posts from 2023, when the Awami League hosted a reception in London for Sheikh Hasina. Bangla Fact confirmed that the circulated video is unrelated to any meeting with a UN team and is, in fact, a repurposed clip from a different event.
