Arm brings AI chip

Arm, a subsidiary of Softbank Group, has announced the introduction of AI chips next year. Nikkei Asia reported this information. News CNBC.

The UK-based chip designer company will reportedly set up a separate AI factory to manufacture new prototype semiconductors.

Softbank is in talks with contract AI chip manufacturers including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to set up the new factory. Large-scale chip production will begin in the spring of 2025, according to sources.

Arm typically designs the core architecture on which the chip is built. It licenses those designs to companies ranging from Qualcomm to Nvidia. The company charges a royalty fee with each sale. Arm claims that their technology is used in 99 percent of premium smartphones currently in the market.
