Fakhrul Warns of Social Media Disinformation, Alleges Plot to Undermine Democratic Gains
BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has said that false and misleading campaigns on social media are damaging the country’s political environment.
Speaking at a discussion meeting held at the National Press Club on Friday afternoon, he said the misuse of social media and the deliberate use of offensive language are severely undermining a healthy political atmosphere. He also alleged that a well-orchestrated conspiracy is underway to nullify the democratic opportunities achieved through years of political movements and uprisings and to create instability in the country.
Mirza Fakhrul said that those involved in conspiracies against democracy would be identified in the current challenging situation facing the country. He asserted that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is not a revolutionary party but rather a liberal democratic political organization dedicated to protecting the rights and welfare of the people.
However, he claimed that an “evil force” that does not believe in democracy or people’s rights has emerged in the country. He called on party leaders and activists to raise their voices against such elements in order to safeguard democratic values.
While speaking at the event, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that various conspiracies are currently taking place across the country and that a so-called “bot army” has now become part of those efforts. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that such attempts would not succeed.
According to Dudu, the people still stand with the BNP and Tarique Rahman. He also called for unity in support of the government and urged citizens to remain vigilant against what he described as deep-rooted conspiracies.
