Google’s ‘Quantum Ecos’ Spurs Speed Surge in Computing
Technology giant Google has announced the development of a groundbreaking computer algorithm that could bring quantum computing closer to practical use and enable an entirely new class of data generation for artificial intelligence.
Named “Quantum Ecos,” the algorithm operates on Google’s proprietary quantum chip and reportedly performs 13,000 times faster than the most advanced algorithms running on conventional supercomputers, according to a report by TechCrunch.
Google officials stated that this technology could play a major role in future drug discovery and new material innovation, as it can precisely measure molecular structures.
Alphabet-owned Google is currently investing in quantum computing research alongside other tech giants such as Amazon and Microsoft. Last year, the company introduced a quantum chip called “Willow,” which overcame key limitations of quantum bits or “qubits.”
According to Google, the effectiveness of its new algorithm can also be verified through other quantum devices, paving the way for creating reliable data sources to train next-generation artificial intelligence systems.
