BASIS Board in Breakdown: Administrator Resigns Amid Organizational Void

Dr. Muhammad Mehedi Hasan, Executive Director of the Bangladesh Council, has resigned from his post as Administrator of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS). His resignation, submitted on Sunday afternoon to the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, comes ahead of his retirement from public service scheduled for July 20.

In his resignation letter, Dr. Hasan cited his inability to complete organizational reforms and hold elections within the stipulated 120-day timeframe as the reason for stepping down. Appointed on December 4 last year, the Additional Secretary of the ICT Division had formed two rounds of support committees during his tenure.

Earlier, on April 30, Rafel Kabir resigned from his position as Chairman of the BASIS Support Committee under the administrator's leadership. Additionally, Hashim Ahmed, who served as the Secretary of BASIS for 17 years, parted ways with the organization effective May 1.

These successive departures have left BASIS, the country's most influential trade organization in the ICT sector, facing an unprecedented leadership vacuum.
