Dhaka Metro Temporarily Halted After Cloth Lands on Overhead Wire

Train services on Dhaka’s electric metro rail were temporarily suspended for nearly 20 minutes after a piece of cloth fell onto the overhead catenary wire, causing brief disruption for passengers. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) expressed regret for the inconvenience.

According to a message issued by DMTCL’s Public Relations Division on Wednesday, December 3, the cloth landed on the overhead catenary cable between Uttara North and Uttara South stations. As a safety precaution, train movement was temporarily halted.

The removal process began at 12:22 PM, and by around 12:42 PM—after approximately 20 minutes—train services resumed. Passengers had to wait at the stations during this period.

DMTCL stated that such incidents are very rare, but train operations were suspended to ensure passenger safety. Relevant personnel acted swiftly to minimize inconvenience. The company assured that monitoring and maintenance efforts will be strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
