Biotech Brilliance: DU and CU win The National Quiz On Biotechnology

The country’s largest quiz competition on biotechnology and genetic engineering concluded with the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Dhaka emerging as the champion. The runner-up position was secured by the same department from the University of Chittagong, while North South University’s Biotechnology Department claimed third place.
Organized for the second time by the Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists (GNOBB), the National Inter-University Biotechnology Quiz Competition 2025 aimed to promote biotechnology education and raise awareness across the country.
With support from the Network of Young Biotechnologists Bangladesh (NYBB), this year’s event saw enthusiastic participation from 320 teams representing 42 universities nationwide.
The grand finale was held on April 19 at the Anwarul Azim Chowdhury Gallery of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Dhaka. The event was graced by Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Dhaka, as the chief guest.
Among the special guests were Dr. Abdul Haque, General Manager of the Biotechnology Division of Aristopharma; Professor Dr. Manjurul Karim of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Dhaka; Professor Dr. Nurul Islam from the Department of Botany; and Dr. Enayet Hossain, a scientist at icddr,b.
Ragib Muttaki, Vice President of NYBB and coordinator of the event, delivered the welcome speech.
The quiz was conducted by Dr. Adnan Mannan, Professor of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Chittagong; Dr. Hamid Hossain from East West University; and Dr. Mohammad Mofizul Islam from Noakhali Science and Technology University.
The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Zeba Islam Seraj, President of GNOBB and a UGC Professor. The competition was sponsored by BloodBridge, an organization dedicated to blood donation management.
