Eid Ticket Frenzy: Record Hits On 2nd Day Overwhelming Railway Website

On Friday, March 14, advance tickets for March 24 train journeys were sold, with the Bangladesh Railway’s online ticketing system receiving 2 million hits within the first 30 minutes. The following day, on Saturday, March 15, the demand skyrocketed further, as 73 million attempts were made to purchase tickets for March 25 within the first half-hour. The overwhelming number of hits was recorded primarily for Western Zone intercity trains.

Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Shahadat Hossain confirmed the massive rush, stating, "Ticket sales started at 8:00 AM. Between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM, there were 73 million hits. All tickets were sold out."

On Friday, for the 15,773 available tickets, the railway website received 20 million hits within the first 30 minutes. By the latest reports, 95% of the total tickets for Western Zone intercity trains had been sold.

To facilitate passengers, ticket sales for Western Zone trains begin at 8:00 AM, while Eastern Zone train tickets are issued from 2:00 PM.

Earlier, on Sunday, March 9, the Railway Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Rezaul Karim Siddiqui, issued a circular outlining the details of advance ticket sales.
