JUST Hosts International Conference on Emerging Technology for Sustainable Development

Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) inaugurated a two-day seminar titled “International Conference on Emerging Technology for Sustainable Development” (ICETSD) aimed at fostering students' interest in research, inspiring future scientists, and enhancing knowledge in emerging technologies for sustainable growth.

The opening ceremony was held on Saturday morning at the university’s central gallery, organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The event was graced by the presence of JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain as the chief guest.

In his inaugural speech, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the global significance of sustainable development, stating, “Sustainable development is now a global slogan. Every corner of Bangladesh holds potential for sustainable progress. The core of this development lies in research, innovation, and finding new solutions. This seminar aims to facilitate the exchange of research knowledge and inspire new discoveries, ultimately fostering the next generation of researchers.”

He further added, “I believe this platform will enable researchers and students to exchange valuable insights and contribute innovations that will aid not only national but also global sustainable development. Such seminars should be organized more frequently to boost the volume of research, allowing us to play a pivotal role in sustainable growth and the country's industrial development.”

The keynote address on the first day was delivered by Dr. Chawalit Charoenpong from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He presented a detailed slide-based session on “Emerging Technology for Sustainable Development”, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development and the global demand for related research. Dr. Charoenpong also engaged with students, answering various questions regarding research methodologies and trends in the field.

Special guests at the seminar included JUST Treasurer Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Md. Amjad Hossain, Seminar Convener and Professor of Petroleum and Mining Engineering Dr. H. M. Zakir Hossain, and Seminar Secretary Professor Dr. Biplob Kumar Biswas from the Department of Chemical Engineering.

The seminar also saw the participation of Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology, alongside department chairpersons, faculty members, and students. The keynote session was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Rafiul Hasan from the Department of Chemical Engineering, while Md. Tarequzzaman from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Anika Anjum from the Department of Biomedical Engineering coordinated the event proceedings.

The two-day seminar is scheduled to conclude on February 23.
