Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md. Nahid Islam has urged to stop the irregularities and corruption in the appointment of contractors in the projects of the state-owned telecom service provider BTCL and to resolve the existing cases on these issues quickly. At the same time, he emphasized ensuring the services of BTCL at an affordable price in educational institutions as well as various government institutions and popularizing Alaap and Jipon through extensive campaigns.

The advisor gave these instructions while speaking in an exchange meeting with BTCL officials at the central office of BTCL in Dhaka on Thursday. The secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Dr. Md Mushfiqur Rahman, BTCL Managing Director Md Anwar Hossain along with DJM, CGM and other top officials were present.

He said that the cases against BTCL should be settled including stopping the allegations of irregularities and corruption in the appointment of contractors in BTCL's projects. Care must be taken to ensure that there is no corruption during the implementation of the project and that there is transparency in the procurement process. Also, in the case of audit objections against BTCL officers, it is necessary to settle the objections by collecting the audit objection money from the responsible parties.

The advisor said that the government has initiatives but the reason why it does not reach the people needs to be found. We have to ensure corruption free services to the public within the limits we may have.

He further said that BTCL would have benefited greatly if 'Alaap', a highly profitable application of BTCL was launched like WhatsApp. But it didn't happen. Similarly popular broadband internet connection is 'Zipon'. So, it is necessary to popularize Alaap and Jipon through massive campaigns.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Dr. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman said that the current government is the result of the anti-discrimination movement of the students. We will move forward to build the country in a new way, with new efforts. The function of the state is to serve the people. Secretary commented that to implement the goals and objectives of the anti-discrimination movement of the present government, it is necessary to ensure the provision of services on the basis of equality among the people.

He said that there are some administrative structures which are unnecessary in-service delivery, they will be reformed and the system of service delivery should be simplified so that people can get the services easily.
