Metro Rail Extends Night Service by 20 Minutes from June 7
Considering passenger convenience, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has decided to extend metro rail operating hours by an additional 20 minutes at night from June 7.
Under the revised schedule, the last train from Uttara North Station will depart at 9:50 PM, while the final Uttara-bound train from Motijheel Station will leave at 10:30 PM.
According to information released on Wednesday night from the office of the Managing Director of DMTCL, an additional trip is being introduced in response to growing passenger demand. As a result, the last train from Uttara North to Motijheel will depart at 9:50 PM, and the final train from Motijheel to Uttara North will leave at 10:30 PM.
However, no new trains are being added to accommodate the extended operating hours. The additional trip will be operated within the existing timetable while maintaining the current 20-minute headway between trains.
The source further stated that all necessary trial operations related to the schedule extension have been completed and preparations are now finalized. An official notification is expected to be issued within the next one or two days.
At present, the last train departs from Uttara at 9:30 PM, while the final service from Motijheel leaves at 10:10 PM.
It may be recalled that the country's first metro rail service, MRT Line-6, was officially launched on December 28, 2022. Initially, operations were limited to the Uttara North–Agargaon section, with services gradually expanded as additional stations became operational.
Full passenger service between Uttara and Motijheel commenced on December 31, 2023, when the Motijheel segment was opened to the public. The MRT Line-6 project will be considered fully completed once the Kamalapur station becomes operational.
