China is set to further strengthen its domestic space industry. State-owned media outlet Beijing Daily has reported that the main construction work of the project named “Satellite Town” will be completed in the second half of this year. It will serve as a dedicated hub for satellite manufacturers and operators.

Current State of China’s Space Industry

According to the report, commercial launches now account for more than 60 percent of China’s total space launches. Several companies in this sector have already begun the process of public listing. Gao Yibin, Head of Strategic Research at Future Aerospace, said that faster approval processes for launches, the development of local component manufacturing, and continuous investment in industry funds are helping China’s trillion-yuan commercial space market become more standardized and large-scale.

Objectives and Significance of Satellite Town

Gao Yibin further stated that areas such as low-Earth orbit constellations, satellite internet, space-based computing power, and 6G air-ground integration are being rapidly implemented. This indicates sustainable growth in China’s space sector by 2026.

The Beijing Satellite Town will provide the necessary infrastructure for the development of the space industry. The main objective of the project is to create an industrial cluster and ensure the efficient flow of talent, capital, and technology.

China is planning to provide global internet services through its low-Earth orbit satellite network, which will compete with SpaceX’s Starlink. The Beijing Satellite Town is expected to become one of the key centers of that initiative.
