Online Bail Bond to Begin from Wednesday: Dr. Asif Nazrul
Starting Wednesday, October 15, bail bonds will be sent online to prevent harassment of the accused after securing bail from court. As a result, once bail is granted, the bail bond will reach the concerned prison with just one click.
This information was revealed by Law Adviser Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul at a program organized by the Attorney General’s Office at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium on Tuesday, October 14.
Presided over by Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman, the event featured Dr. Nazrul as the chief guest. He said, “We have implemented several reforms directly from the Ministry of Law. We did it entirely on our own—without anyone’s assistance. Tomorrow, we will inaugurate the online bail bond. Until now, from securing bail in court to being released, a person had to go through 12 different stages. In some of these steps, money had to be paid, and harassment was common. Tomorrow, we are launching a pilot project where, with a single click, the bail bond will go directly from the court’s verdict to the jail where the accused is held. We did this with government funds—no external assistance was needed.”
Dr. Nazrul further stated, “Our government has plenty of money—believe me, plenty. I have 1,600 crore taka in the Expatriates’ Welfare Bank and 1,500 crore taka in the IGR (Registrar’s) Office. No one pays attention to these. We can use our own resources to do a lot of good work.”
Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rauf and Barrister Anik R. Haque also spoke on the occasion.
