Bangladesh Backs Bilateral Boost with Turkey, Urges Recruitment of ICT Workers
As part of efforts to strengthen cooperation in trade, defense, labor, and education, Bangladesh has called on Turkey to recruit both skilled and unskilled Bangladeshi workers across various sectors, including information and communication technology (ICT).
The call was made on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 7, during a courtesy meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka between Md. Touhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Adviser of Bangladesh, and E. Beris Ekinci, Deputy Foreign Minister and Ambassador of Turkey.
While neither side spoke to the media following the meeting, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs later in the evening confirmed the discussions. The Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister is in Dhaka on a two-day visit to attend the 4th Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two countries.
According to the ministry, during the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Ekinci conveyed the greetings of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Bangladesh. He also reiterated Turkey’s firm support for the ongoing reform initiatives of Bangladesh’s interim government and briefed the Foreign Affairs Adviser on the outcomes of the earlier FOC discussions.
On the Rohingya issue, Ekinci assured continued humanitarian support from Turkey to the forcibly displaced Rohingya population sheltered in Bangladesh. “Turkey will remain vocal in favor of their safe and swift repatriation to Myanmar,” he added.
The meeting also underscored the importance of enhancing defense cooperation, expanding educational partnerships, and increasing scholarship opportunities in Turkey for Bangladeshi students. The two sides also discussed various regional and global issues, reaffirming their shared solidarity and support for the legitimate rights and self-determination of the Palestinian people.
