Huawei and China Mobile Clinch GSMA Award for AI-Powered Core Network Innovation

Huawei and China Mobile have jointly won the GSMA’s "Best AI Innovation in Asia" award for their pioneering AI-powered core network solution—the first of its kind in the network technology sector. The accolade recognizes the companies' contributions to technological advancement and commercial implementation of AI in core networks. It also reaffirms Huawei's leading role in the era of mobile AI.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, June 25, Huawei Bangladesh stated that the fusion of 5G-Advanced and Artificial Intelligence has marked the beginning of the mobile AI era, offering enhanced connectivity across personal, domestic, and industrial sectors. As AI-driven applications become more prevalent, the need for AI-based core networks continues to grow.

Huawei and China Mobile are at the forefront of integrating AI into core networks to align intelligent applications with intelligent infrastructure. Their AI core network solution is developed in two stages. In the first phase, a 5G-A intelligent core network equipped with AI agents enhances the cognitive capacity of the network and supports improved service delivery, operations, and maintenance. A key element of this phase is the integration of computing and network layers, allowing for efficient handling of energy and computational challenges on user devices.

The second phase involves the complete transformation of the core network into an AI-native architecture, thereby creating an "agentic core." This agentic core autonomously handles production, adaptation, and maintenance, instantly responding to users' needs.

In China, widespread deployment of the new "New Calling" service has begun, offering innovative features like visualized voice calling, fun calling, and real-time translation. In terms of network intelligence, the Intelligent Personalized Experience (IPE) solution has been commercially rolled out in multiple provinces. IPE fosters awareness across service, user, and network domains, enabling operators to shift from a traffic-dependent model to an experience-driven revenue model.

Operationally, intelligence is being infused into O&M (operations and maintenance), leading to structural overhauls, service improvements, and enhanced customer experience. Huawei’s collaboration with China Mobile has also resulted in the development of a low-carbon core network that ensures efficient energy use throughout every phase of the end-to-end system.

George Gao, President of Huawei’s Cloud Core Network Product Line, stated: “The integration of AI into core networks is a defining trait of the mobile AI era. An AI-native core network will serve as a fertile foundation for innovative services and enable the shift from 'Intelligent Connectivity of Things' to 'Intelligent Connectivity of AI Agents'. By working closely with China Mobile and other industry stakeholders, Huawei will continue to support new service innovation and unlock greater commercial value.”

As the commercial deployment of 5G-Advanced technology accelerates in 2025, Huawei is collaborating with global mobile operators, domain experts, and industry leaders to reshape telecom services, infrastructure, and operational models through AI-driven innovation. This transformation aims to generate new revenue streams and expedite the transition to an intelligent world.
