Van Driver Killed in Pabna, Vehicle Hijacked

A van driver in Santhia, Pabna, was murdered, and his vehicle was hijacked after he was lured over the cell phone under the pretense of a rental fare. The victim, identified as Sujal (38), had been missing since Friday night. On Saturday morning (February 15), police recovered his body from a pond near Swarup, along the Madhpur-Santhia regional highway.
Sujal, a resident of Khayerbariya village in Santhia Upazila, was the son of Ishaq Ali Pramanik.
According to family sources, Sujal had recently purchased a new van for BDT 100,000. Around 10:00 PM on Friday, he received a phone call from an unknown individual regarding a fare and left home. Soon after, his phone was found switched off, and he never returned. His family searched for him at various relatives’ homes but found no trace. On Saturday morning, locals spotted a body floating in a pond and informed the police. Upon arrival at the scene, the police recovered the body, which was later identified by Sujal’s family.
Confirming the incident, Santhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidur Rahman stated, “We received a 999 emergency call and responded immediately. The body has been recovered and sent to Pabna morgue. A legal investigation is underway, and a case is in process.”
