A. League demands the dismissal of Indian citizens working in Bangladesh
Bangladesh was the 4th remittance earning country for India. During the Hasina regime, it was alleged that a number of Indian citizens had been employed in various job sectors of Bangladesh. Eventually, amid the high youth unemployment scenario, the demand was strong to deport the Indian citizens and fill up those positions by the Bangladeshi people. Hence the fallen Awami League too has demanded the dismissal of the Indians to the interim government; and, a post has been given on the verified Facebook page of Awami League on Thursday.
The Facebook post reads, 'Dear Advisor – 26 lakh Indian nationals who work in Bangladesh, list them, sack them, create opportunities for the country's unemployed youth!'
In the comments box of that post, it is said, 'This information was given by the advisor, so this work has to be done by him. We think this is the demand of the youth.'
26 lakh Indian nationals are employed in various institutions of Bangladesh on contractual basis, various political organizations of the country have been claiming this for many days. The complaint was that the Sheikh Hasina government had given them opportunities in various institutions. After the fall of Hasina's government, the issue of jobs for Indians came into discussion recently.
Awami League's post does not mention which adviser gave this information. However, before the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, the interim government's legal advisor Professor Asif Nazrul claimed that '26 lakh Indian citizens are working in Bangladesh'. His video went viral on social media.
Last June, the finance minister of the ousted Awami League in the National Parliament said that Indians have sent five crores six lakhs dollars from Bangladesh until April 2023-24 fiscal year.
