It was learned on Tuesday, July 21, that the platform's official launch and on-air ceremony was held on July 20 at the Fazlul Haque Memorial Auditorium of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
The event was attended by BFDC Managing Director Maimuna Rahman Tani, filmmaker Zibran Tanvir, and noted cinematographer Khair Khandker, along with representatives from various sectors of film, television, and digital media.
BanglaReels is a dedicated streaming platform built for smartphone users, featuring only short-form dramas and series produced in vertical format. The platform will offer original content across genres including romance, family, comedy, thriller, mystery, action, and social drama.
The event showcased BanglaReels' vision and future plans, and formally marked the start of its on-air operations. It was attended by representatives from the government, media, the film and television industry, corporate organizations, advertising agencies, production houses, and digital content creators.
BanglaReels founder Sajid Hossain Chowdhury said, "My father, Mosharraf Hossain Chowdhury, was involved in the distribution of 'Mukh O Mukhosh,' the first Bangla-language film released in 1956. Inspired by that legacy, I want to bring Bangla stories of the new generation to global audiences through modern mobile technology. Through BanglaReels, we aim to create high-quality original entertainment, build sustainable opportunities for local creative talent, and contribute to the growth of Bangladesh's digital entertainment sector."
The company claims that smartphone usage and the popularity of short-form video content are growing rapidly. In line with this shifting audience trend, BanglaReels aims to bring local Bangladeshi stories to digital audiences while creating new employment opportunities for writers, filmmakers, actors, and producers.
BanglaReels describes itself as Bangladesh's first dedicated vertical drama streaming platform, aiming to further strengthen the country's growing digital entertainment ecosystem.
