The government has launched free public internet services at key public gathering points across the country within one month of assuming responsibility.

The information was shared by Fakir Mahbub Anam, Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology, through a photo card posted on Facebook. The post has already been widely shared.

According to the photo card, the initiative—being implemented as part of the Prime Minister’s commitment—has already introduced internet services on a trial basis at five railway stations and airports, among other locations. In addition, the service is now available on moving trains across four divisions.

The photo card further states that, to ensure accessible and free internet services for citizens, the government is gradually expanding coverage to various important locations. Under this initiative, people are able to use free internet services at railway stations, airports, and other high-traffic areas.

As part of technological advancement, it was also noted that internet connectivity has been established at several airports and railway stations across the country, while for the first time, internet services have been introduced on moving trains using Starlink satellite technology. This initiative is being viewed as a significant step toward strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.

Currently, internet connectivity has been introduced at Cox’s Bazar, Saidpur, and Rajshahi airports, as well as at Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar railway stations. Additionally, passengers on moving trains are enjoying internet services through satellite-based connectivity.

The photo card highlights that trains operating on the Dhaka–Chattogram, Dhaka–Sylhet, Dhaka–Rajshahi, and Dhaka–Khulna routes have been brought under this Starlink satellite internet service.

Relevant authorities said the initiative will play an important role in accelerating the country’s digital transformation and making technology services more accessible to citizens. Plans are also in place to expand the service further in the future.
